We as an American society are finally starting to (once again) see that healthy fats are essential to healthy living.
I’ve been looking for ways to sneak more coconut oil into my life and so I got SUPER excited when I stumbled across a coffee recipe with a generous addition of coconut oil.
Have you tried adding coconut oil to your coffee yet? If you haven’t, then you’re possibly feeling like me two days ago: A little grossed out at the thought adding oil to your coffee. But if you try it, you’ll be like me today … OBSESSED.
But, besides tasting AMAZING, here’s the best part …

What happens when you consume coconut oil on a regular basis? Dr. Axe’s web site lists 20 great benefits and side effects. They all interest me, since I want to be as healthy as possible. But two points about coconut oil in particular make me SUPER happy:
“Improves Memory and Brain Function – In a 2004 study published in the journal of Neurobiology of Aging, they found that the MCFA’s found in coconut oil improved the memory problems in their older subjects.
Across all the patients there was a marked improvement in their recall ability after taking this fatty acid. As the MCFA’s are absorbed easily in the body and can be accessed in the brain without the use of insulin, they are able to fuel brain cells more efficiently.
Improves Energy and Endurance – Coconut oil is easy to digest, but also produces a longer sustained energy and increases your metabolism. When taking a quality non-processed coconut oil, you can get the most benefit as it’s MCFA’s are sent directly to the liver to be converted into energy!
Today, many triathletes will use coconut oil as their source of fuels during training and races for long distance events.”
Ok, so now that we’ve seen WHY you might want to start your day with coconut oil, let’s get on to the good part.
HERE’S HOW TO MAKE INSANELY YUMMY COFFEE
- Take your mug of hot black coffee, and pour it into a blender. (I make my coffee in a French Press … but it doesn’t matter how you prefer to make yours. Any unsweetened coffee will do.)
- Add in 2 tbs of high-quality coconut oil
- Add in a tsp of cocoa powder and a dash of cinnamon
- If you like sweet coffee, add in a heaping tsp of honey (I like mine to have the bee pollen in it for added nutritional benefits).
- Blend for a minute.
You’ll end up with a frothy drink that tastes like HEAVEN and is SO good for you. Plus, since the coconut oil isn’t cold like coffee creamer or milk, it doesn’t cool off your coffee.
You could easily mix up a larger batch of this and save it in your cabinet. It doesn’t need to be refrigerated. And of course, you can opt to leave out the honey if you don’t want to add any sweetener … or add more if you prefer your coffee super sweet.
